About Me…Work in Progress
So, where do I start? This whole ‘write about me’ makes me cringe a little and I guess the title ‘Work in Progress’ probably refers to both my about me page and to life in general…
Hi, I’m Susan, I live with my boyfriend, Dave, and our two cats, Jeffrey and Delia, in a small town in Scotland, UK. I am originally from a very small island off the West coast of Shetland called Foula, which had 23 people living on it when I grew up. At times I was the only pupil at the primary school, the power went off at night (this still happens), there are no shops and the weekly food shop order is delivered via plane or boat.
At 17 I left Shetland and moved to Edinburgh to study Biology at uni with the idea of becoming a teacher; that was until I sat next to a girl in a lecture and got chatting to find out there was a Food Science and Technology course on offer. I hastily transferred course, at the time not having a clue what sort of jobs a Food Science degree could lead too but all I knew was I loved food and wanted to learn more about it.
Since graduating I have used my degree to work within the food manufacturing industry in technical, food safety, development, procurement, forecasting and process development within a range of products from breakfasts all the way through to deserts. The best part being all day I get to learn new techniques, ingredients, flavour profiles and trends within the industry.
Using all of my experience, passion and knowledge I am hoping to bring a unique and honest blog to you to showcase new recipes, twists on classics and some problem solving thrown in for good seasoning. The majority of the recipes will be tailored around low carb as this is the eating habit that suits me best but I do deviate away from this at times
The dream is to become a recognised name and open a little bistro / cafe offering amazing food, starting trends and having a loyal customer base. I plan to take you all on the journey with me and I welcome feedback, comments, general chat and even critique to help me reach my goals.
P.S. I love cheese (& biscuits)
